This park is one of the beautiful places of cherry blossoms in Saga Prefecture. The cherry blossoms that lead to the park are called “Flower Tunnels” and the lighting up of the cherry blossoms at night was held for the first time in Kyushu district. The place where the park is located was Kashima Castle in the past, but most of it disappeared due to the Saga War in 1874. Currently the Akamon Gate (red gate), Otemon Gate, Ishigaki (stone wall), the surrounding samurai residences remain, it has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks. Akamon Gate was the main gate of Kashima Castle and has been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Saga Prefecture.
